What you can expect from East London
On the map, East London finds itself located on the southeast coast of South Africa in the province of the Eastern Cape. On its north, runs the Nahoon River and on its south, the Buffalo River. This makes East London the only river port in the country. The people of East London have a deep sense of hospitality and their style of living is quite laid back. They actually make you feel at home. The Indian Ocean with its warm water and the subtropical climate makes one relaxed. The Gonibu Beach
Located 25 kilometres north of East London - Gonubie Beach is linked to the city itself by the n2. Gonubie Beach enjoys international blue flag status, awarded to beaches that meet a high standard for environmental protection and safety practices. Gonubie Beach features a convenient main parking lot which is linked to the beach area by an expansive wooden boardwalk. Here strollers pass lovely man-made tidal pools and can enjoy stunning views of plentiful indigenous vegetation.
The Nahoon Beach
One of East London’s cleanest and least populated beaches is Nahoon Beach. Its unusual name comes from a local Xhosa chief. The Surf Live Saving Club is also located there. Due to the amount of amazing waves, several national surfing contests take place there. In addition to surfing, it is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing. Fisherman also enjoys Nahoon Beach. This seashore is enjoined by everybody.
The Orient Beach
Orient Beach in East London is a popular destination for tourists. It is located in the Quigney suburb, which is at the southern end of the Esplanade. It’s proximity to hotels and shops help explain why it is a favourite spot for tourists. Patrolled by lifeguards and protected by the breakwaters of the harbour makes it a peaceful and safe environment to relax and soak up the sun. With amid green lawns - there are two large pools, equipped with slides that provide plenty of space for the thousands of visitors that flock there. Changing areas are provided and there are many eating options to choose from, including a refreshment kiosk in season.

The Aquarium
The Friends of East London Aquarium is the longest operating aquarium for the southern African viewing public. For over 75 years it has provided an important role in educating about the critical function ocean life plays in our ecosystem. It helps injured marine animals, too—hundreds of them are treated and released back to their natural environment annually. The lovely and spacious exhibit areas display marine life from the region.
The Southern Right Whales travel close to shore at East London as they migrate southward on the South African coast to their arctic destination. Because of this, the aquarium built a platform, eleven metres high, that perches directly above the surf. Visitors have a wonderful place to enjoy watching the whales.
