Vacations In Bournemouth, England and Some Useful Facts

Bournemouth is a thriving, vibrant and fantastically exciting city, despite its nickname ‘God’s waiting Room’. The reason why Bournemouth is called this is because large numbers of old folk choose to live here during retirement. However, the city has a large youth culture, with a high population of university and language students. Of course a place such as this would be a interesting place to have some fun but, there is plenty  more to the place. In actual fact Bournemouth is extremely popular with groups of all ages, probably the reason why there are so many hotels offering Bournemouth bed and breakfast to choose from.

Bournemouth is found on the coast in the South of England, a little over one hundred miles southwest of London. Bournemouth, the largest town located on the south coast, is very well known for having seven miles of perfect golden beaches and glistening rich blue sea. It is the town’s stunning locale that caused it to become an immensely popular vacation destination since the start of the 19C. It is nearly impossible to envisage that in and around the area of Bournemouth was,  in 1800, largely a barren and remote moorland consisting of mainly common land except for the estate belonging to Sir George Ivison Tapps. The Tapps Arms, a public house, appeared on the heath in the year eighteen hundred and nine, a few of years after this, in 1812, a retired army officer and wife, the first residents, moved in.

Lewis Tregonwell and his wife acquired a patch of land, from Sir George Ivison Tapps, upon which they built a series of villas with the idea being to let them out to visitors in the summer for vacations. Lewis Tregonwell also built a nearby summerhouse. and also began to plant many hundreds of pine trees, making a fantastically sheltered walkway leading to the beach, , which later gained the name of the Invalid’s walk.

Since those early days the popularity of Bournemouth, as a resort by the sea, has continued to increase, and today, the city has become known as a tourist haven for entertainment, leisure, fun, culture and recreation. Places which tourists love to visit include; the Russel-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth Pier, the award winning Central Gardens and the graveyard of St. Peters Church.
